Porous metal foams are open-cell structures composed of permeable pores. This cell and ligament matrix is fully customizable and can be optimized to meet the performance requirements of a wide range of applications.
Porous metal foams are commonly used in applications that benefit from the very high surface area and the natural mimicking morphology of rigid cellular structures.
The high surface area to volume ratio of porous metal foams provides heat transfer rates unattainable with any other material.
The high homogeneity of the porous metal foam allows precise control of crush strength by varying density, pore or ligament size. This is very useful for energy absorption applications.
Porous metal foam can be compressed to further increase surface area and flow resistance; while still maintaining an "open cell" architecture - and enjoying all the benefits mentioned above.
